I'm a qualified Integrative Counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP 403487).
As an autistic woman, I understand what it is to feel like an outlier.
For fifteen years, I've worked as a home-based childcare practitioner working with children on the autistic and ADHD spectrum, managing behaviour, finding meaningful communication and helping them express their emotions safely. I have experience working with Alexithymia – an inability to recognise or articulate felt emotions.
Today, I work with adults on a variety of issues. Generations of children, now adults who were never diagnosed until later in life, if at all, and struggle to accept themselves with their mask off. I offer affirmation to those who were often misunderstood as children and still bear the scars. People on the autistic spectrum may find it difficult to communicate deeply felt emotions and assert their needs and may be traumatised by experiences where they have felt less than, so have learned to emotionally detach as a coping mechanism. When this becomes a prolonged state, stress, anxiety and depression feel like constant companions. This leads to somatic distress such as insomnia, joint pains, digestion issues and autoimmune disorders such as fibromyalgia and spontaneous Alopecia. If you have Alexithymia, I will help you recognise and honour your emotions by developing the language to express it. We work on exploring those feelings and practice setting safe personal boundaries together - validating your true nature and affirming your place in the world.
By taking a client centred approach to counselling to understand you, as a unique person, I will listen to your issues, explore them with you, and the next steps will be yours to choose. You may be in need of an ally to help you understand patterns of behaviour and in doing so your healing may begin. Or you may wish to collaborate to find a solution to an issue. I can facilitate that exploration too.
Talk therapy can behave in a ripple effect much like throwing a stone into a pond. Where one person’s life is positively impacted– its effects are noticed in ever wider circles from family and relationships to work and the public.
I am honoured and privileged to journey alongside others on their unique path to wellbeing. Job satisfaction is a deeply humbling experience - to empower another to live up to their potential. Seeing the positve changes in clients strongly aligns with my personal values. I honour community and interconnectedness. Human biodiversity should be celebrated and treasured. Each and every one of us is enough just as we are.
Feeling content within yourself should be the baseline for human happiness. However, as it is sadly not always the case, my role is to guide you there.
